Young Chihuahuan Raven (Corvus cryptoleucus)
Visitor is a curious young Chihuahuan raven (Corvus cryptoleucus) perched on a balcony. Chihuahuan ravens are members of the family Corvidae, and native to the Big Bend region of West Texas and throughout the Chihuahuan desert. Ravens and other corvids are some of the smartest birds on the planet and can reason, solve puzzles, and make and use tools. Their shiny black feathers and bold call are unmistakable in the desert.
